WHERE HE WAS BORN, LIVED, AND WORKED
He was born around 1390, there's no exact record
Born in Maaseik, Belgium
Lived in Burgundian, Netherlands
In 1421, Jan van Eyck became a master painter and went to work for John of Bavaria
When John of Bavaria died, van Eyck became court painter for the Duke

MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS
He completed 15 paintings in 61 years
Most famous painting was Giovanni Arnolfini and his bride, painting in 1434
One of the first painters to use one layer of tempra and then a layer of oil
Finished a painting his brother started called Ghent Altarpiece after his death
Worked with a prince with very high salary which made him one of the best Flemish painters
