PRESENTATION OUTLINE

VISIBLE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTS

PAIHIATUA SCHOOL & HADLOW SCHOOL

WHAT DID WE SEE?

  • Visible learning Environment at Pahiatua (Hattie)
  • Future Focussed MLE at Hadlow
  • VLE Philosophy is a way of thinking, not a programme
  • Engaged kids running their own programme
  • Visible learning walls and digital timetables

HOW IT LOOKED

  • Kids aware of own assessment levels
  • Choosing their workshops where needed
  • Choice of WHEN to do not WHAT to do
  • Students working across different spaces
  • Every kid on task and self managing

THE TEACHERS ROLE...

  • Weren't managing behaviour, just teaching
  • Planning collaboratively, always talking
  • 20minute explicit teaching spots with groups
  • Knowing their learners needs across a hub
  • Clear expectations on behaviour and work

THE STUDENTS ROLE...

  • Be in charge of their own day
  • Knowing their next steps, where they are
  • Self manage, self direct, verbalise learning
  • Asking for help when needed ie: workshops
  • Taking risks and being prepared to fail

NOW WHAT?

HOW WOULD THIS LOOK AT FRIMLEY?

NOT FANCY SPACE, BUT HEAD SPACE

WALLS ARE NO BARRIERS

DONT WAIT TILL YOU'RE GOOD AT IT, JUST DO IT
