  • The snow leopard is a large cat native to the mountain ranges of Central and South Asia
  • Snow leopards are slightly smaller than the other big cats
  • Snow leopards live to around 10-12 years old in the wild.
  • A snow leopard can run 35 mph
  • Snow leopard can have 2 or 3 cubs or more

  • The snow leopard lives in cold mountains
  • Snow leopard eats blue sheep, Argali wild sheep, ibex, marmots, pikas and hares
  • Unlike other big cats, snow leopards can't roar.
  • A female is called a leopardess.
  • Snow Leopards weigh between 60-120 pounds.

WHY ARE SNOW LEOPARDS ENDANGERED

  • The hunters cut their fur off
  • Trading the animal fur
  • Humans also destroy snow leopard habitat and food sources by killing the prey animals they need to feed on

WHAT MEASURES ARE BEING TAKEN TO HELP PROTECT THE ANIMAL

  • Snow Leopards do not have many predators, in fact their main predator is man
  • They use their sharp teeth and claws to protect their self
  • Efforts to save the snow leopard include the signing of treaties and laws by governments to make their trafficking illegal.
  • Conservation agencies have also been created to preserve them.
