CIVIL WAR.

FORT SUMTER.

  • Fighting finally broke out at fort Sumter.federal troops refused to surrender.
  • Within two day fort Sumter fell.
  • Lincoln called for 75,000 militiamen to put down the south's rebellion

BULL RUN.

  • Showed that the war wouldn't be easy to have a victory for the union.
  • Jackson's troops defeated another union before it could march directly too on Richmond.

BATTLE OF ANTIETAM

  • Took place on September 7,1862.
  • Was the bloodiest war.

SHILOH

  • Near Shiloh church,grant halted his troops to wait for more soldiers to arrive.
  • New Orleans was captured by controlling the Mississippi.

VICKSBURG

  • Vicksburg was difficult to capture because it was located on high cliffs.
  • Siege of vickburg lasted about 6 weeks before hunger forced the confederates surrender.

EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION

  • Lincoln realized that one way to weaken the south was to free the Slaves.
  • After the battle of Antietam Lincoln presented the emancipation proclamation.

  • The battle started because Lee tried to attack the North.
  • The battle of Gettysburg started July 1, 1863
  • Battle of Gettysburg was the most bloodiest 3 day war.
