• the southern campagin was a series of battles to defeat the british

• fought between the american patroits & the continental army
• british had about 2500-3600 troops
• while american forces had about 650-900 troops
• savannah remained under british control untill redcoats left their own accord

bufords massacre

• took place on ma 29, 1780
• when Lt. banastre tarletons legion overtook Lt. abraham retreating virginia contentials.
• who had arrived late to aid the defense of charleston
• this tragedy arroused a sprit of vengeance among the patriots

• took place towards the end of the american revolutionary war
• after british began to sheit their strategic focus towards the american southern colonies

• continental general noratio gates chose to engage britsh general charles cornwallis' force

• a partisan troop is a member of an irregular military force to oppose control of an area by force.

battle of cowpens

• on january 17,1781
• it was decisive victory by the coninental army forces under brigadier general daniel morgan
• the british army was led by colonel banastre tarleton.
• it was turning point in the reconquest of south carolina from the british
• took place in northwestern cherokee country.

battle of yorktown

• was a decisive victory by a combined force of american continental army troops led by general george washington & french army troops led by the comte de rochambeau
• it also was the last major land battle of the revolutionary war.

gulifords courthouse

• on march 15, 1781
• although british troops under lieutenant general charles corwallis scored a tactical victory at GC over american forces major general nathanael greene.
• the british suffered significant losses during the battle
• afterward, cornwallis abanded his campagin fo the carolinas & instead took his army into virinia where in october of that year he surrenderd to george washington

KINGS MOUNTAIN

• Major Patrick Ferguson was apart of the battle of kings mountain.
• Durning the American Revolution patriot irregulars under Colonel William Campbell.
• They defeated forces under major Patrick Ferguson at the battle

EUTAW SPRINGS

• Started on May 1781
• Major general Nathaniel Greene of the continental army resumes offense action against lieutenant colonel Alexander Stewart
• The patriots approached in the early morning, and the British soldiers got defeated
