Hyperbole: Extreme Exaggeration.
Excerpt: "The garabage reached across the state, from New York the the Golden Gate."
It exaggerates how long the garbage was.

Idiom: Saying close to a language but not the real meaning.
Excerpt: "I apologize for being late", "she said, sounding a little out of breath."
The real meaning means difficult of breathing out, it sounds like she was really not breathing.

Its telling about all the stories of fairy tales then it says at the end that the'll be bored.

Metaphor: A comparison between two things that are dissimilar.
Excerpt: "they were targets all but wrapped in red ribbons, cream puffs."
The cars are like tagets and cream puffs but there really not.

Mood: Atmosphere or feelings in a story.
Excerpt: "into the bright morning with a feeling that all was well with the world on this best of all days."
The mood is happy, cheerful, and bright.

Personification: Something non-human is given human qualities.
Excerpt: "The red-brick ranch house that belonged to Mr. Morgan, and the white clap board two story-house in which Ms. English lived and the other homes on the street, with their columed front porches and their back patios, and the tall oaks all stood curiously still in the warm golden light of the mid-morning sun."
Trees cannot be curious because they are not human.

Excerpt: "Several trails merged into ours, it seemed as if all the paths out of Cambodia were converging on this one spot on the Thai border."
It was in Cambodia and when they were on a trail. It tells when and where.

Simile: Comparing two things using like or as.
Excerpt: "The coppersmith is a bird who makes the noise exactly like the beating of a little hammer on a copper-pot."
It uses the work "like" which is comparing two things.

It says that people keep there promises.
