Imperialism

• a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force.
• British Empire extended over 5 continents and France had control of large areas of Africa

Alliance

• A close association of nations of other groups, formed to advance common interests or causes.
• Many countries were drawn into the conflict

Militarism

• The belief or desire of a government or people that a country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared to use it aggressively to defend or promote national interests.
• War was ingrained in every citizen and notions of peace were dismissed as weakness.

Nationalism

• an extreme form of this, especially marked by a feeling of superiority over other countries.
• It makes people become proud of there country to show they were better or deserved respect from other countrys.
