WHAT ARE THE PRECEPTS OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

  • The precepts of the Catholic Church are what we, as Catholics, need to do at the minimum
  • There are a small part of what we do
  • We have to go beyond those precepts

ATTEND MASS ON SUNDAY AND HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION

  • You must go to mass on Sundays and in holy days of obligation
  • Also on those days you must rest form servile labor
  • "Keep holy the LORD's day"

CONFESS YOUR SINS AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR

  • Confessing your sins is important because we are not perfect and we need forgiveness form God
  • In order to receive e Eucharist we must confess our sins

RECIVE EUCHARIST DURING EASTER SEASON

  • During the Easter season we have to receive the at least once

FAST AND ABSTAIN

  • I will give more details on another slide
  • Basically it's a way of not thinking of yourself
  • Instead you think of others

GIVE THE CHURCH WHAT IT NEEDS

  • Since the church Is there for our own benefit we should give
  • Give to the church what they need

FASTING

  • You don't eat as much as you normally do
  • All Catholics between the ages 18 and 59 are to fast
  • If you are any of the following you don't have to fast
  • Pregnant or nursing
  • Some manual laborers

Abstinence

  • This is not eating meat
  • Fish is allowed
  • For Catholics 14 or older
  • Same excuses as for fasting

GOING BEYOND

  • We can't just follow the precepts
  • We have to do more
  • Fast every Friday
  • Go to mass often
  • Give to the Church
