Gustave Flaubert was born December 12th, 1821 in Rouen, France. He was the fifth of six children in a family of doctors. He attended the Collége Royal de Rouen.
During his time at the Collége Royal de Rouen his interest in writing began to flourish. In fact, Flaubert wrote for the school's newspaper. At the same time, he began reading Shakespeare and traveling extensively.
