When I was a child, I grew up in

It was sunny all the time, and there was never

out of paper,

In school, we would cut snowflakes

to make it look snowy.

and my mom had little decals she stuck on the window

and we would draw them in class.

We had snowflake Christmas tree ornaments,

It was always explained to us that each snowflake is

no two are the same.

like our fingerprints or a zebra's stripes:

i knew they were beautiful,

So I grew up with this understanding of snowflakes...

I knew they were intricate,

I knew they were delicate,

And, having only seen the decals and ornaments and drawings,

I thought they were like icicles - something you could hold.

"These are snowflakes."

"What do you mean?" he asked.
