After completing the Hajj, I did not head home, but stayed a year to visit Mesopotamia and Persia. Then I traveled by ship on the Red Sea and down the East African coast.

After studying as a scholar, in 1345, I made my way around southern India, Ceylon, and the Maldives, as a qadi. I visited bustling port cities.

In 1350, I made a short trip to the kingdom of Granada in southern Spain and in 1353, I joined a camel caravan across the Sahara to visit the Mali empire.

During my travels, I visited 44 modern countries and logged over 117,000 pol kilometers. You can read all about my travels in my book.

My father and uncle were one of the first European merchants to visit China. Between 1260 and 1269, they traveled throughout the mongol lands, on their second trip, they brought me along with them.

In 1217, the great Khan took a liking to me, and allowed me to peruse my mercantile interested and I served as a diplomat.

After several years, my family decided to return to Venice. We went back on a sea route by way of Sumatra, Ceylon, India and Arabia, arriving in 1295.

During my countless travels, I have experienced the textiles, spices, gems, and other goods in the cultures I have visited.
