PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Each God and Goddess symbolized something different.Zeus is the heavens, Athena is war and wisdom, and Hermes was messaging.
EACH GOD/GODDESS HAD PARENTS
- Zeus' were Cronos and Rhea
- Athena's were Zeus and Metis
- Hermes' were Zeus and Maia
King Acrisius was the father of Danae who was very beautiful. However, Acrisius wanted a son. He went to the Delphic oracle to ask it if he would ever have son. It said no. The oracle did say his daughter Danae would have a son and that son would kill him. Acrisius locked Danae in a bronze underground apartment with an open roof to let in light. She had no way to reach any men and to have a son that would kill acrisius. He left her. Zeus was attracted by her beauty and came and reached her through the roof. One day a messenger said to Acrisius , " a son is born to your daughter". The king was scared. Danae and her son Perseus set off to sea. Dictys was a fisherman who helped them. Perseus grew up tall and strong. Dictys had a brother named Polydectes who was cruel and mean and wanted to kill Perseus. He told him to go fight Medusa. Perseus accepted the challenge and went to go fight Medusa. He chopped off her head and brought it with him to show what he accomplished.
The theme in this myth is to never underestimate someone's abilities. Polydectes sent Perseus to get himself killed, but Perseus came back alive and with Medusa's head
