WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

  • A package that provides protection, tampering resistance,
  • and keeps the food fresh.
  • It may bear a nutrition facts label and other information about
  • food being offered for sale.

WHO INVENTED EDIBLE FOOD PACKAGING?

  • David Edwards, the inventor, has invented
  • a fully edible food packaging called Wikipearl.
  • He made edible food packagings for yogurt,
  • coffee, and alcoholic drinks packages.

WHO IS DAVID EDWARDS?

  • David is a bioengineer at Harvard and he's 51 years old.
  • He is also a writer of fiction and nonfiction books.
  • And he founded le laboratoire, an experimental science and art
  • center where artists and scientists collaborate in Paris.

EDIBLE FOOD PACKAGES

  • In Bob's Burgers in Brazil, you can eat
  • the wrapper and the burger without having
  • to unwrap it.
  • You don't have to throw the wrapper away.
  • And it causes no mess!!

WHAT IS WIKIPEARL?

  • Edible food packaging.
  • Wikipearl ice cream and yogurt were
  • launched in selected Paris stores last June.
  • Real foodstuff is combined with calcium ions
  • to wipe out the need for plastic wrapping.

THE PROS

  • No mess.
  • Saves the environment.
  • Reduces plastic packaging.

THE CONS

  • Costs more money.
  • Takes up more time.

  • Brazilian hamburger.
  • Edible cups.
  • Yogurt cups.
  • Froyo Bon-bons.
  • Wikipearl coffee.

FUTURE OF FOOD PACKAGING.

  • They will be made of food particles and ions.
  • It's exactly like human skin, the goal is to
  • reproduce the natural barrier of human skin.
  • The company is working on creating beverages in
  • a similar way to Wikipearl.
