Professional

Being a great CIO means always being Professional. It is the framework upon which everything else in your job depends. Successful CIOs can keep work on task and moving forward, while juggling politics, personalities, and work behaviors.

Proactive

Great CIOs are proactive, rather than reactive. It's always better - and cheaper - to identify possible problems in the road ahead, rather than to try and make mid-course corrections reactively.

Prescient

Successful CIOs must be able to anticipate what their businesses will need and encounter, before being asked. They must know themselves, know their markets, and know their businesses as a part of their intrinsic makeup.

Persistent

A great CIO will power through challenges and problems, long after others have thrown in the towel. Sometimes, issues can't be described in five minutes, nor explained on a bumper sticker. Standout CIOs are those who persist, and push through.

Passionate

Intellectual curiosity and lifelong learning are hallmarks of the passionate CIO. Passion for profession is contagious, and will show in the quality of a passionate CIO's work, and the teams they build around them.
