Where is the cougar located on the food pyramid?

Cougars are carnivores so they would be considered a tertiary consumer at the top of the pyramid.

Cougar's niche in the community

They keep prey populations in check and help prevent overgrazing of rangelands.

Cougars have a big job in their biome. They keep most things in balanced. Cougars are the largest cat in North America. They range up to 6-9 feet! Their tails even take up 1/3 of their body length. Cougars also play an important role in the food pyramid too. It can be tricky though because cougars are hunters but are being hunted at the same time. But their sharp teeth help them survive. Cougars rarely attack humans unless they are sick, have kittens, have food with them, or they're spooked. Cougars are endangered because over 2,100 cougars are shot every year in the U.S.A. and Canada. For every female cougar shot, about 3 to 4 kittens die too, because they can't survive on their own.

Why are cougars endangered?

The biggest reason that cougars are endangered are because over 2,100 cougars are shot every year in the U.S.A. and Canada. And for every female cougar shot, about 3 to 4 kittens die too. The second reason is because the food pyramid often gets unbalanced and cougars become hunted more than before.

Protecting cougars

Many people are starting groups and charities to help the cougars. People are outraged as to why people feel the need to shoot cougars for no reason. They're many petitions and acts to try and help them. Surprisingly a lot of people care about cougars and are donating their money towards different foundations. They're also acts going to try and stop people from illegally trading cougars.

Making a difference

I can try and spread the word about protecting cougars. I could make an organization or fundraiser to help raise awareness. Any attempt in helping I make could change a cougar's future.
