• The sun's way:
• Hollyhocks turn toward it
• Through the rain of May

EXPLANATION

• The elements of nature are the sun, the hollyhocks and the rain
• The sun represents hope
• The rain represents tragedy
• The hollyhocks are society; they are the human race
• As a society, we look towards a new hope when tragedy is among us

SPRING

• Pollen from flowers
• Guided by the windy air
• In search of new life
• The meaning of this haiku is that spring is a time of fertility in nature

SUMMER

• The merciless heat
• Finding refuge in summer
• There is no escape
• This haiku symbolizes that the heat is like a child aging, you cannot runaway from the inevitable

FALL

• Thanksgiving is fun
• Where families celebrate,
• Together as one
• The meaning of the haiku is Thanksgiving is a special holiday during the season of fall

WINTER

• Majestic and white
• The snowflakes fall a great height
• A marvelous sight
• The meaning of the haiku is snow and winter represent purity and new life
