The museum, which is actually two houses conjoined, consists of an office, a residence, a recording studio, a switchboard and a daycare. The Motown Museum tells the story of the classic era of Motown Records and Tamla Records from 1959 to 1971. The museum houses Motown memorabilia such as album covers, gold records, costumes and photos related to the rich history of Motown and its founder, Berry Gordy.
The Motown Museum has recreated Hitsville USA to what it looked like when it was last used in 1971. Many of the original furnishings reside in the museum such as the recording equipment. There are even vending machines: including a candy machine, with the original candies in the display.
