Mairī Krisamasas is how you say Merry Christmas in Hindi.

In India they celebrate Christmas as their winter holiday.

There are 25,000,000 Christians in India

and they are the ones who celebrate Christmas.

Santa Claus is called either Jaaraa Baabaa or Christmas Baba and he brings presents from a horse and cart.

In India the weather is usually between 23 and 8 degrees celsius in December. It is 3 to -4 degrees celsius in Idaho in December.

There are 480 languages spoken in India these are five of them:

  • Hindi
  • Bengali
  • Telugu
  • Marathi
  • Tamil

  • Mulghlai Biryani
  • Gujia or Nuereos with coconut filling
  • Yakhni Pulao

Christians have a gift exchange after they go to Midnight Mass.

The Christians in India go to Midnight Mass at churches decorated with poinsettias and candles.After that they have a feast then go home and celebrate Christmas by lighting fire crackers. In south India they put oil burning lamps on their roofs as a sign of Jesus. Many schools put on Nativity plays. The children also get a visit from a costumed Santa that brings candies.
