When You're At Your Worst

Luke 22:31-34; 54-62

Biggest Mistake

  • Think about the biggest mistake you have ever made...
  • How did you feel?
  • Embarrassed? Ashamed?
  • Do you have a hard time forgetting it? Letting it go?

Luke 22: 54-62

Peter's Denial

Peter's Denial

  • Peter thought he was a failure, not just a person who had failed.
  • The shame of his sin was piling on.
  • Guilt is something you did...
  • Shame is something that you believe you are.
  • The devil is good at reminding us of our mistakes!!!

Revelation 12:10-11

  • The enemy will try to take something that you did and convince you that what you did is who you are.
  • The enemy constantly reminds me of what I did.
  • Peter... the rooster crowing... constantly reminded of his failure for the rest of his life.

Do you ever feel like a failure?
Say things like, "What's wrong with me?" or "Why do I always mess everything up?"

Big Idea:
God loves you just as much in your worst moments as he does in your best moments!

Luke 22:31-34

Jesus: Our Advocate

  • to speak or write in favor of; support or urge by arguement
  • John 14:2
  • The Holy Spirit is pleading your case. Holy Spirit is reminding you that that's not who you are.
  • You messed up. You aren't messed up!
  • You failed. You aren't a failure!

Surprised By Our Mistakes

  • No parent is surprised when their kids talk back, pitch a fit, break rules, etc.
  • Jesus wasn't surprised by Peter's denial.
  • Jesus isn't surprised by our mistakes.

We mess up!
That's a fact.
But don't let your faith in God fail!

We have an Advocate in the Holy Spirit who is pleading for and defending us.

We have a Savior that isn't surprised by our mistakes!

We have a God who loves us just as much in your worst moments as He does in our best moments!

Silence the chatter from the Accuser with the voice of the Advocate!

Our failure is NOT final!
God's grace is!
He offers it to us!
The choice is yours!
