PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SPEED

  • Distance traveled by an object divided by the time taken to travel that distance
  • Speed = distance/time
  • Speed = 12m/3s = 4m/s
  • To crack a whip the tip must be traveling faster than the speed of sound

AVERAGE SPEED

  • The total distance traveled dived by the total time taken
  • Average speed = total distance/total time
  • Average speed = 50m/25s = 2m/s
  • Rapid rivers flow 3 miles per hour or 4 feet per second

VELOCITY

  • The speed of an object as well as the direction in which the object is moving
  • Velocity = distance/time
  • Velocity = 300 miles/5 hours = 60m/h
  • Velocity of an object changes if the speed, direction, or both change

ACCELERATION

  • The rate at which velocity changes over time
  • Acceleration = velocity/time
  • Acceleration = 80m/s /10s = 8m/s
  • Acceleration of freefall on the moon is 1.6 meter/sec

NET FORCE

  • The combination of the forces acting on an object
  • Net force = mass( acceleration )
  • Net force = 200(4) = 800
  • Net force is the overall force of an object
