URBANISATION AND GROWTH

  • In 1750, 140 million people in Europe
  • A century later, population was 266 million
  • Plague and wars became less frequent
  • Many people moved to cities for jobs at factories

WORKING CLASS

  • Blue-collared
  • Worked 12-16 hours a day
  • Many were coal miners
  • Dangerous Conditions
  • No security or established minimum wage

WORKING CLASS (CONT.)

  • White-collared
  • Made up of middle class
  • Many were burghers and town dwellers

SOCIALISM

  • Advocated system by factory reformers
  • Government owns all utilities and factories
  • Wealth evenly distributed
  • Everyone's needs will be met and everyone can use their abilities
