CABEZA DE VACA

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

  • Cabeza de vaca was born in 1490 and died in 1557.
  • In 1527 Cabeza joined the expedition to Florida.

SPONSOR

  • He sailed from Spain in early 1527 as a part of a expedition.
  • It was intended to occupy the mainland of North America.

MOTIVES

  • The government asked Cabeza de vaca to go on the expedition.
  • That's what made him want to go on the expedition.

ROUTE

  • He traveled from Spain in early 1527 to the mainland of North America
  • Their fleet was battered by a hurricane off the shore of Cuba.
  • Then they had a new boat and departed to Florida then landed in Tampa bay.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • "He was the first European to describe the American buffalo,also called bison"
  • "In 1540 Cabeza was appointed governor of Paraguay."
  • Sadly he was a failure as governor,and the colonist later deposed him.

  • The world changed because he found Mexico and Texas.
  • He also spoke about the inhumane treatment of the natives.
