They would work on farms and grow; corn,pole beans, squash, and tobacco
They would tell stories (tradition)
Catawban homes were made of sapling frames covered with bark or mats made of grass (wigwams)
Traded furs, deerskins.....eventually Europeans tricked them into slavery

Spanish brought African Slaves work on plantations and mines.
Spanish explored mostly for gold
English sailed along North America claiming land for the King
Spain founded San Miguel de Gualdape
English founded first permanent settlement (Charles Town) in 1670

Africans were enslaved and worked on plantations
Slave codes were to prevent another revolt after the stono rebellion
Stono rebellion was the biggest revolt by African slaves
Some slaves were able to purchase their freedom if they had special talents

Rice was the main cash crop that made the most money (Carolina gold)
Indigo became became a common cash crop...was a blue dye
Practiced mercantilism which caused more money to come in

Proprietary government is a government ruled by a group of lords proprietors
Royal government was one that was ruled by a king
Proprietors were thrown out because they did not provide much protection
