1. Today I’m going to talk about the role of wearable technology and the role it will have in your workplace. This is not a wellness discussion per se but embracing new technology will have a dramatic impact on the health of your organization.

2. We are in a period where technology innovation is crossing the chasm to the mainstream faster and faster. This is also happening inside of corporations and those that embrace a culture of new technology adoption will be smarter, more competitive and more profitable. Who doesn’t want that?

3. Wearable technology is a great example of going mainstream. When one of the most famous fashion models is wearing the Apple Watch, you know we’ve reached a new level of awareness. Apple Watch is taking wearable tech to another level.

4. The opportunity in wearable technology is to follow the trend of BYOD (bring your own device) in the enterprise just like we saw with the transition from the Blackberry to the iPhone or we are seeing with tablets. Wearable tech and fitness tracking is inside of your organization. The question TODAY is how to lasso it for mutual gain.

5. Embracing a BYOD culture means letting go of some control, not of security and not of privacy, but of content and programs like deep integrated, white labelled wellness portals. It means liberating your employees to make choices that work for their lifestyles.

6. But just like the iphone, a piece of hardware is not what solves your employees’ day to day problems. It is a myth to believe that a wearable device will solve your wellness problems.

Untitled Slide

7. The answer is not in the data but how that data helps build community; create enduring purpose for the individuals; inspiration, and motivation to be their best selves. This is when you see systemic change. The question is will you relinquish enough control to let it happen?

Untitled Slide

8. So how do you do it? How do you embrace wearable technology inside of your organization in a way that will have the greatest impact on the health of your organization? This is not a “check the box” initiative. It is about broad adoption that can be scaled without a lot of time or money by your already strapped HR professionals.

9. All Inclusive (2) – talk about the large cats and the active cats. The fact it can’t all be a step game. That people will be at different levels. It needs to be simple, easy for everyone to use.

12. Value for the data (2) – Talk about Privacy. I think about how in reality employees are already sharing their data (posting on facebook, partaking in runkeeper comunites etc). Value can come in many forms and will be different for every person and organization. This is where you experiement – rewards, competitions, games, discounts on insurance. Be creative be innovative.
