PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PRESSURE AND FLUIDS

  • Fluid pressure depends on depth.
  • Greater the depth, the greater the pressure.
  • Liquids or gases that take up space in a container.
  • Fluids flow from high pressure to low pressure areas.
  • Pressure=force/area

DENSITY AND BUOYANCY

  • Density is the rate of mass to volume in a given substance
  • Density=mass/velocity
  • Sinking: an object will sink if it is more dense than the fluid it is in OR if it has greater weight than the buoyant force.
  • Floating: an object will float if it is less dense than the fluid it is in OR is equal to the buoyant force.

ARCHIMEDES PRINCIPLE

  • Displace: to take the place of.
  • Principle: buoyant force on an object in a fluid is a upward force equal to the weight of the fluid it displaces.
