Population

  • Orginial population was about 15,000 and peaked at 35,000
  • Pawnee population today is around 3,000

Location

  • Orginially lived near Texas, Kanasas, and Nebraska
  • Today they live in Oklahoma

Housing

  • Teepees and earth lodges
  • Teepees for the nomatic and lodges for a permanent homes

Food

  • Pawnee Indians ate lots of food that involved buffalo, including buffalo meat and buffalo soup
  • Pawnee Indians also ate all kinds of crops that the women harvested

Clothing

  • Women wore deer skin skirts
  • Men wore breeh clothes and leather leggings
  • Warriors wore special buck skin war shirts
  • All Pawnee Indians wore moccasins on their feet

Daily Life

  • Men were hunters and warriors
  • Women cooked, farmed, and took care of their children
  • Children had many chores although they enjoyed playing games with their peers and family

Daily Life for Elders

  • Grandparents tended to their grand children and taught them important lessons
  • Elderly people also used to help clean the lodge or teepee

Religion

  • Most of the Pawnee religion related to the stars
  • Tirawa created the universe and was the main god of the Pawnee
  • Special stars and spirits were also worshipped as gods to bring good fortune to the Pawnee
