AVE Virtual Learning Models

  • Rolling Enrollments (Recovery/Home)
  • Blended (Virtual Learning Lab)
1. Traditional Blended Labs – When the home-school hires a para-professional to facilitate the lab of virtual students.

Recruiting is Key – Ideal Blended Lab Learning

Home-school identifies and hires the Academic Coach

2. Virtual Students – When the students are conducting a virtual course from home, i.e.
(Recovery course, Acceleration, etc.)

Who Monitors your Students?
i. Counselors
ii. Department chairs

What does AVE recommend?
a. Regular check ins bi-weekly, monthly
b. Pull-out/Intervention from Electives when necessary
c. After-school check ins

Blended (VLL)

  • Students are placed in a FIXED enrollment (Fall, Spring)
  • Student are PACED (Semester/Yearly)
  • Zeroes w/the possibility of retry option monthly 1-5
  • Students participate in AVE Programs
Blended model - Ideal for students in need of an elective, core course to meet their graduation requirement.

a. Students are enrolled exclusively at the beginning of the Fall/Spring Semesters.

AVE Programs

i. Peer Leadership/Mentoring sessions
ii. House Activities
iii. Student of the Month
iv. Social Media events
v. Pen Pal "AVE Amici"

Rolling Enrollments

  • Tailored for Recovery to at their own Pace
  • Taught by an AVE Teacher
  • Seat/Requests are met monthly
  • Zeroes w/the possibility of retry option monthly
  • Pacing/Grouping is Encouraged
Seat Requests/Reservations:

·Students request their own courses and must wait for approval from their counselors

·Once a seat opens up, AVE will enroll the student in the course of his / her choice that was previously approved by the home school counselor

·If a section and a teacher are available these students will be enrolled between the 1st – 5th of each month

·Grades will be reported to school upon student’s completion of the course

a. Hybrid will abide to brick and mortar responsibilities & home school administration

b. Hybrid will be provided with training and support for LMS/SIS and content support, PD and be observed by AVE on a quarterly basis.

i. Supplemental not the Traditional Brick and Mortar/Blended Lab
ii. Strategies are different with regards to systems SIS/LMS
iii. Do you really need all that content? NO

1. Personalize and Customize
2. Gradebook Flexibility
3. Condense Modules
4. Remove redundant exercises, assignments
5. Oral exams in class vs DBAs
6. In-class live sessions

AVE Innovations

  • Pretest (Formative Assessment)Embedding
  • Pacing Guidelines
  • Streamline Assignments
  • Student Blogs
In order to help you manage your day-to-day responsibilities without so much clutter and confusion, Alison has been commissioned to do the following in preparation for second semester:

1) Pretest (Formative Assessment) Embedding: To ensure we have a way of identifying student readiness and tracking learning gains quantitatively, each course will have a mandatory pretest that students must complete before they can proceed.

2) Pacing Guidelines: Each section will now have a universal pacing chart that helps you and the students know when to expect live sessions, special activities/projects, and average weekly assignment to complete. Due dates will be more universally inputted to help you and your students stay on pace and avoid so much confusion and inconsistency between teachers.

3) Streamline Assignments: Based on feedback from content experts in your area, we will hide some extraneous assignments. They will not be deleted. engaging and inspiring our kids to want to learn.
4) Student Blogs: Added to help students feel more connected to one another and able to share their feedback and thoughts about the course, thus making them more like partners in the process.

Course shell revamp

  • Alison, Point-Person for Course Enhancement
  • Schedule your session TODAY
  • Tutors are also standing by to assist
  • PACING/Dashboard setup is required for FIXED/Blended
1) Teachers/students can find pace charts on course info page in BrainHoney (attached on the bottom in a hyperlink).

2) It will help teachers to understand and utilize our PALS program for intervening with struggling learners.

3) It will help teachers create groups that will be adjusted each week, as needed, and allow for higher levels of differentiated instruction.

4) All pretests must be completed before students can move ahead. They have no grade value but will better help you understand students baseline knowledge and course readiness.

5) System Graded Assessments (Excluding Module Exams, Midterms and Finals) will offer students an automatic chance for a second retry if students are not happy with their grade, and they will be allowed to keep the highest grade.

6) Edmodo, blogs, and Blackboard will be used according to pace, allowing you to schedule these important aspects of our roles into your calendar and make the interactive experience more front and center.

7) All non-midterm and final exams have unlimited retries so teachers will not have to do so manually unless it is submitted work.

e-Learning assistance

  • Peer-Learning-Centered Approach
  • Universal Live Sessions
  • House Affiliations
  • Edmodo "Blog"

House Affiliation Model: Students automatically enrolled in "House" for creation of camaraderie and community as well as motivation through healthy competition.

Pen Pal (Amici) Program: Expansion of live teleconferencing program with students in blded learning labs and those in Europe, South America an Caribbean also in AVE programs.
