WHY WE GAVE UP THE CANAL
The canal was given back to panama in 1999
President Jim Carter signed a treaty way back in 1977

JIM CARTER TREATY
On September 7, 1977, President Jimmy Carter signed the Panama Canal Treaty
Neutrality Treaty promising to give control of the canal to the Panamanians by the year 2000.
It would be much faster to travel across the narrowest part of Panama.
Carter was able to achieve the two third majority for ratification of the treaty of 1977

In 1902 president jimmy Carter paid forty million dollars to build the Panama Canal
The Panama Canal is 6miles through the Pacific
Panama Canal act of 1979 and the Carter treaty of 1977 worked hand in hand
