Names

  • Born as Jose Doroteo Arango Arambula
  • Changed his name to Francis Villa
  • Nicknamed Pancho Villa
Jose Doroteo changed his name several times for periods of time in order to protect himself. Ever sense Pancho was a younge man, his ourpose was to establish justice to the people of Mexico under the rule of the dictatorship presidency in Mexico.

Although Pancho killed Americans and many Mexicans, he also helped many people. His main objective was viewed as Americans see Robin Hood. Both men stole from the rich, but gave the wealth to the poor.

Born in Durango, Mexico, June 5, 1878

Pancho Villa was born into a rather poor family. When he was 15, his father died, leaving him to support the family. Several years after, Villa shot a man who was assaulting his sister. This was his first known killing.

Villa fled to the mountains for 6 years after killing a man to protect his sister and became a bandolero.

During these 6 years, Villa became a bandolero, which is a common bandit. Although he was uneducated, he learned many fighting strategies that helped him later on in his upcoming life.

Rebellion

  • Villa joined Madero's uprising in 1910
  • He stepped out of line along the way and was imprisioned by Victoriano Huerto
  • He escaped and led another rebellion in 1912
Francisco Madero was the upcoming president of Mexico during this time. Pancho Villa was a major supporter of him. Madero had ordered Pancho not to lead any sort of rebellion for him because he was convinced he would lose. Going against his orders, Pancho and his army won and were the reason that Madero came into power.

Villa became governor of a new state called Chihuahua after winning Battle of Torreon

In the battle of Torreon, Pancho was fighting for contoll of central Mexico. When Pancho Villa won battles such as these, it earned him more power, respect, states (Chihuahua), and made him the most wanted man in Mexico.

Trouble between U.S and pancho

  • Started when US gave official recognition to Venustiano Carranza's presidency-1915
  • He began by attacking American property such as New Mexico (1st attack on US since 1812)
Venustiano Carranza had over thrown Madero, so, automatically, Pancho despised him. When the US began to favor Carranza, Pancho began to attack US soil as "revenge". First, he and other bandits attacked a train carrying American miners. Then, he killed 17 Americans in his attack on Columbus, New Mexico, on March 9, 1916, aggravation many people, along with President Wilson.

the Pershing Expedition

  • The US entered Mexico in search for Villa, which Carranza supported
  • After 10 unsuccessful months of manhunt, Pershing and his men were forced to leave
About a week after Villa's attack on Columbia, Carranza allowed US troops to enter Mexico in search for Pancho Villa. This was known as the Pershing Expedition. The men were searching for nearly 10 months, until they began to get aggressive with some Mexican citizens and were forced to leave, unsuccessfully.

Villa was shot in 1923 in his car.

While driving through the streets on July 20, 1923 in Parral, Mexico, Pancho Villa's car was ambushed. Nearly 40 shots were fired at it, killing everyone in the car.
