PANDA BEARS

PREY

  • Panda bears are herbavores and prey on bamboo.
  • They do not eat anything else, and must eat lots of bamboo.
  • Bamboo lacks nutrients, so the panda has to eat 30-45 pounds of it each day.

PREDATORS

  • The main predator of pandas are humans.
  • Snow leapords eat the panda cubs.
  • Humans hunt pandas for their fur and meat.
  • Those are the only two threats to panda bears.

PANDA BEAR CUBS

  • Panda bear cubs are about the size of a stick of butter when they are born.
  • They're mothers stay with them until the baby strikes out on its own after 1 year.
  • Baby pandas are very small vulnerable when they come out of the womb.
  • Baby pandas are produced sexually.

HABITAT

  • Pandas live in mountainous, forests with lots of bamboo.
  • The forests are broadleafed, or coniferous, and are snowy.
  • Pandas have lived in the same area for thousands of years.

PROTECTION

  • Panda bears protect themselves in many ways.
  • If they sense a predator nearby, they climb the nearest tree for protection.
  • Pandas may also swim across nearby rivers in an attempt to run away.
  • As a last resort, pandas will bite and claw the predator away.

PHYSICAL FEATURES

  • Pandas are white, and have black patches on there eyes, ears, and legs
  • They have 6 fingers, the first five, and an extra one used for grabbing bamboo.
  • Another feature of the panda are its large molars used for grinding down bamboo.
