The panpipe (pan flute) is an ancient musical instrument based on the principle of the stopped pipe.

The panpipe consists of a series of pipes, gradually increasing length, tuned (by cutting) to desired scale. Sound produced by blowing across the top of the open pipe.

The panpipes was a musical instrument first used by the Ancient Greeks. Most commonly played by Shepherds, the earliest use was in the Cycladic Islands in the 3rd millennium BCE, & representations of the instrument run right through the history of Greek Art

The panpipes are made from either bamboo or giant cane (other materials used include wood, plastic, & metal) pipes of different lengths tied in a row or in a bundle held together by wax or cord (metal, clay, plastic instruments are also made) & they are generally closed at the bottom

No one knows who invented the panpipes, they have been in existence since Ancient Greek & Roman days. Greek mythology says that the God Pan created the first panflute.
