We choose to land on Mars because of its weather conditions, atmosphere, and it's distance from earth. We decided that would be our best option. We hope to learn more about the planet and its conditions for human life. We should explore there because the earth might get too hot and we would need an evacuation planet
We would need parachutes because in order to Land Rover we would need an extremely soft landing and a parachute would do the trick. The parachute works when the canopy(the top of a parachute) catches air which would slow the parachute down causing drag
Next property we tested was the length of suspension lines. My group tested the smallest size.
The longest lines won because the closer the lines were to the parachute it put more weight on the parachute so the longer it was the lighter it should be
Finally we took our data and got into groups and created our final parachute. We could only choose one large size for our final parachute. My group chose the canopy to be the biggest because it would be making the the most drag. We choose the medium string because it was the second best on the recorded data. We also used the trash bag because it was the best on our recorded data. Our parachute was mission ready the time we got was an average of 3.65 and an average of 3 feet every second .
If I could do another parachute using any variables I want I would use 30 inch strings and a huge parachute made from the same trash bag material but more durable with a light load, but not too light because the parachute would just topple over
In this experiment I learned many things. First we started off the experiment learning about planets and I realized with my table group that Mars would be the best planet to start life on. The next thing I learned was about variables. After we learned about both we saw a video about mars and about landing rover. Then Mrs. French assigned us the project. After we were talking why air took up space and I learned that air can take up space sometimes. In conclusion I learned a lot of things throughout this project.
