Daily Routine For Skill-Building & Learning

Quarantine Edition (Parents & Teens)

What are we covering today?

  • What is a routine + why do we want one?
  • Your daily routine = 3 simple steps (*diff types of routines, we're talking about YOURS today!)
  • Creating 7 Days of Awesome

A Routine is Not...

  • More on your plate
  • Fixed / static

A Routine Is...

  • A tool to help you manage what's on your plate
  • To be adapted until it works for you

Why do we want a daily routine?

  • Clarity = power (rn many of us, especially our kids, feel DISempowered); clarity not just on what, but WHY + how
  • Modelling reinforces household culture (routine --> SB, accountability, reflection, resilience as daily practices)
  • Low-stakes confidence builder

Your Daily Routine

  • Check - Plan - Do (Reflect)
  • In school
  • Non-academics / in life (focus here)

Your Daily Routine

  • Identify your (non-school/non-work) buckets.
  • CHECK: why is this bucket important? What do you want to do/achieve? Timeline? Consider short-term vs. long-term (we need both!)
  • PLAN: write out the tasks needed to do/achieve/prioritize accordingly.
  • DO

Golden Rules of Your Daily Routine

  • Check your resources (ie Google classroom). Do not rely on memory.
  • Write down your plan (ie calendar). If it's not written down, it's not happening.
  • Set yourself up for success. Your DAILY Routine - how to make it become/stay that way? What gets in the way? Design decisions ahead where possible (1x day vs. am/pm? timer vs no timer? etc.)

7 Days of Awesome

  • Using Check - Plan - Do, create best (as can be) week
  • For yourself, with (but NOT for!) your kids
  • Have fun :)
  • Recent examples (cooking; video gaming [we embed skills where we can!]; language learning; SMA's)
