WHAT IS PARKINSON'S?

  • A disease developed because of a problem in the medulla in the brain

DISCOVERED

  • The earliest signs of Parkinson's dates back to as early as 5000 B.C
  • No one actually knows the actual date it was discovered
  • A doctor named James Parkinson was the man who named and discovered a treatment for this disease

SIGNS/SYMPTOMS

  • Tremors - involuntary, repetitive, rhythmic shaking or twitching movement
  • Rigidity
  • Bradykinesia - slow movement
  • Postural Instability

TREATMENT

  • Levodopa and Sinement
  • Mirapex
  • Requip
  • COMT
  • Sometimes brain surgery to destroy areas of the brain to relieve some symptoms
