Parkinson's Disease

  • A disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors, commonly in the hands

Parkinson's Disease Causes

  • Parkinson's disease is caused by the progressive deterioration of neurons in the area of the brain known as the "substantia nigra"

Parkinson's Disease Symptoms

  • Tremors
  • Slowed movement
  • Rigid muscles
  • Impaired posture or balance
  • Loss of automatic movement
  • Speech changes
  • Writing changes

Organs affected by Parkinson's disease

  • The primary organ affected by Parkinson's disease is the brain, specifically the area known as the substantia nigra

How Parkinson's Disease is Transmitted

  • Parkinson's disease cannot be transmitted, in fact it is not known why the disease even occurs, it is believed however that Parkinson's disease can be passed on gentically

Who is Affected by Parkinson's Disease

  • Both men and women can get Parkinson's disease, but men have a slightly higher chance of getting it
  • The risk of getting Parkinson's increases at the age of 65

  • There is no cure to Parkinson's disease but it can be managed through medication, surgery, or even alternate therapies

How to Prevent Parkinson's Disease

  • Since the cause of Parkinson's is currently unknown, there is no known way to prevent it

How Parkinson's Disease is Diagnosed

  • Parkinson's is diagnosed by a neurologist purely based on the patient's medical history, since there are no known tests to diagnose it
