WHAT CAUSES PARKINSON'S?

  • Falling levels of dopamine cause messages from the brain to be interupted
  • This causes body movements to be disrupted

INFECTIOUS??

  • Non-Infectious👍

MAIN SYMPTOMS:

  • tremors and shaking
  • Slowness of movement called bradykinesia
  • Stiffness of arms, legs, and body
  • Trouble with balance and falling

SECONDARY SYMPTOMS:

  • smaller, cramped handwriting called micrograpia
  • Reduced arm swing on affected side
  • Slight foot drag on affected side resulting in a shuffled walk
  • Trying to walk but being frozen in place(called freezing)
  • loss of facial expression because of rigid facial muscles

SECONDARY SYMPTOMS(CONT.)

  • Low voice volume and muffled speech called hypophonia
  • Tendency to fall backwards
  • Decreased ability in automatic reflexses such as blinking and swallowing

TREATMENT:

  • No cure😭
  • Pill that helps create more dopamine
  • Therapy to treat annoying symptoms
  • Lifestyle modifications(rest and excersize)
  • Speech therapy

  • Medications
  • Surgical treatments
  • Note: surgical teatments are only used when medication options have been exhausted

  • If you will get PD, symptoms usually start around 50 or 60 yrs old
  • The disease increases in intensity over time
