PATAGONIAN DESERT

Have you ever wanted to go to South America? The Patagonian Desert is the place for you! The Patagonia desert features many types of plants and animals.

The Patagonian Desert is at the tip of South America and split between Argentina and Chile. It is in the Southern Hemisphere. The longitude is 41.8101S and the longitude is 68.9063 W.

WEATHER

  • June-September is winter with freezing temperatures
  • Weather in Patagonia can be unpredictable
  • Summer in Patagonia has hot temperatures

PATAGONIAN ANIMALS

  • Gray Fox- the gray fox is smaller, but it is in the canine family, it is a reddish black color.
  • Guanacos- the guanaco is very similar to a llama, it is also related to camels.
  • Mara- the Mara is a larger rodent but is rabbit like.

PLANTS

  • Copihue- The Copihue blooms in late summer and fall
  • Maqui- The Maqui is a small tree that gets to a height of 4-5 meters
  • Lenga tree- The average Lenga tree grows to 100 feet

FUN FACTS

  • The Magellanic penguin was found in Patagonia and named after Ferdinand Magellan when he discovered the penguin in 1519
  • There is a Patagonia, Arizona
  • The Patagonia desert covers around 300,000 sq mi including some islands
