PAX

BY: SARA PENNYPACKER

CHARACTERS

  • Peter: The boy, Pax's boy
  • Pax: The Fox, Peters fox
  • Dad: Peters Dad
  • Bristle: A fox
  • Runt: A fox, the runt of his mother's litter

It started when Peter's dad forced him to leave his pet fox, Pax, in the woods because Peter had to move.

Peter was dropped off at his Grandfather's house by his father who was going off to war. Peter missed his fox so he ran away.

Peter left in the early morning and stopped by a school that had a baseball field, his favorite sport. He stopped there to take a rest.

Peter continued his journey until one night he went on a "back trail" that lead to a house out in the country. It was dark at this time and he tripped on a root and broke his ankle.

As he took a brake in the house's barn, the owner, Vola, found him. She made some crutches for his broken ankle.

Peter told Vola about his fox and she told him that if he wanted to find his fox his ankle had to heal. Vola strengthened him until he was ready.

While Peter was at Vola's house, Pax was hungry and lonely until he found some friends named Bristle and Runt. Runt was the runt of his mother's litter. Bristle didn't like that Pax had human smell on his fur.

Peter had finally strengthened himself enough to go out and find his fox,
so that's what he did. He went back to his home town but then realized it was blocked off because there was a war happening. Peter got through the gate and began to go to the same place he left his fox.

Peter walked to the place where he had left his fox. As he was walking he ran into his father. Peter was very mad at his father and kicked him. Then Peter began to cry and so did his father.

As Peter went looking in the woods for his fox, he saw Pax with two other foxes fighting a wolf. Peter then realized that Pax had found a new home. He let Pax go on with his life as a wild fox.
