DANGER!

  • Assess the area and make all dangers known
  • Your own safety is important
  • Remove any thing that appears dangerous
  • Do not proceed 'till danger is removed
  • Eg - an electric wire - turn it off

  • Check for response
  • Use COWS
  • Decide if they are conscious
  • Small kids or enfants should never be shaken
  • If unconscious lay them on their back

  • C - can you hear me?
  • O - open your eyes
  • W - what's your name?
  • S - squeeze my hand

  • Call 000 or 112 - give the following information
  • Location - near by landmarks
  • Telephone number where the call is being made
  • Including state/territory and/ or area code
  • How many people require assistance

  • condition of the casualties
  • What assistance is being given
  • Never hang up before the emergency
  • service operator does

AIRWAY

  • Open & clear casualty's airway
  • The airway is the most important
  • Place them on their back
  • In a case of drowning place on side
  • Tilt head, lift the chin to open airway

FOR BREATHING

  • Check to see if they are breathing
  • Is their chest rising?
  • Is air coming out of the nose?
  • Look, listen, feel

FOR COMPRESSIONS

COMPRESSIONS

  • Place palm on the sternum
  • If a infant use 1 or 2 fingers
  • 30 compressions in 1min

FOR DEFIBILLATION

  • If you have a defibrillator use it
  • It should have clear on instructions
  • It is easy to use
  • If not keep doing compressions untill help arrives
