PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Hi to all future 5th graders and welcome to your next PDW that will take place in Verbier (if the world does't explode before then). Anyway I hope you have a great time with great counselors in a great small town (I could go on). The counselors take huge care of you and help you with MOST problems. Have a wonderful 5 days in Verbier and enjoy!
Intro
This is my Grade 5 PDW reflection: on Monday the 25th of October we took two big coaches for all of Grade 5 (About 100 Kids) to go to “Les Elfes” (Verbier Camp) until Friday 29th of October (5 days, 4 nights). I really enjoyed my PDW week because I had fun discovering, learning and doing new things with my friends.
Highlight N1
One of my main highlights was the ropes course in that it was challenging and really fun at the same time. For example: There was a super cool course with only ziplines and there was a more challenging one where you had to climb a tree and then attach yourself to an elastic band and jump down to ground level.
Highlight N2
Another highlight was the inside water park: It was awesome because there weren't much people (due to the sunny weather) and there was a lot of space so we could try new things although we weren't allowed to go on the 3rd floor for the slides. At the water park, there was a slide I particularly enjoyed because you would go down a tunnel and then come out into a gigantic funnel and do some loops before you would sink into the hole, trying to stay alive! I went down it 5 times and luckily I survived all of them.
Highlight N3
One day we had a hike which was 3 hours, not too long but it was great since the landscapes were beautiful and we had a great dog (A Husky) called Sherkan (like in the jungle book) that had the hike with us. An amazing thing during the walk was that, a lot of the time, we were walking along a man-made river which is also called a “Bissa” and Sherkan thought it was glorious and so he splashed in it a lot. One thing that rocked during the hike was that we had a marvelous barbecue half way through with sausages and crisps and fried vegetables (It was delicious).
Food
I definitively appreciated the food as it was absolutely superb: For example, on Tuesday, we had Fajitas and, on Wednesday, we had a pasta party. Occasionally, we had dessert like cake! There was always salad as a starter and for breakfast, we had jam, bread, butter, cereal, milk and/or orange juice. It was very organized because there was always a vegetarian and a lactose-free option.
Night Activities
Every day, we had a night activity: On Monday, we just had some free time which wasn’t a bad thing considering you could go on the trampoline or play football or rugby on the pitch, and you could also go to the game room to play table football, pool, and ping pong. On Tuesday, we made an epic music video: our chosen song was “Thriller” By Michael Jackson. We had to get in a group of 10-12 and create a short choreography or scene. On Wednesday, we had to get into smaller groups (6-8) and our task was to create a sort of nest, where we would put an egg in and then drop it from balcony level. Ours survived the first balcony, but sadly, not the second. We had the following materials for our nest: balloon, tape, cup, napkin, paper and cardboard. On Thursday, we went to the disco and it was incredibly wonderful and entertaining because we had lots of music with songs and there was loads of volume.
Some Skills Required
During the whole PDW, I had to use self-management skills to take care of my stuff and not lose it. I had to stay organised and neat otherwise my belongings would get lost. Another element that I used was my social skills: I had to accept my own responsibilities, cooperate and make decisions. I also had to cooperate with new people and so I made some new friends. I definitely had to be a risk-taker during activities and a thinker during difficult tasks.
1 Fun Fact
A cool thing about this year’s PDW was that I have friends near Verbier so I already knew the ropes course and the water park.
Thanks For Watching/Listening/Reading!
