HOW THEY HELP A SPORTSMAN

  • Support helps a gymnast when they are holding a position
  • Movement helps a footballer when you have to run after a ball
  • Protection is needed for a rugby player when being tackled

TYPES OF BONES

  • Flat bones e.g scapular
  • Long bones e.g femur
  • Short bones e.g carpals
  • Irregular bones e.g vertabrae

HOW THEY HELP SPORTSMAN

  • Long bones give leverage to generate power
  • Short bones help to get spin on a cricket ball
  • Irregular bones act as a shock absorber for a gymnast
  • Flat bones withstand impact like the cranium for rugby

JOINTS

  • Ball and socket e.g shoulder
  • Pivot joint e.g hip
  • Hinge joint e.g elbow

SYNOVIAL JOINT

  • This is the most comment kind of join and is good for movement
  • There is synovial fluid between the bones
  • There is carilage between the synovial fluid and bones
  • These are there to stop rubbing
  • When they rub you get arthritis
