Outcome:
The assault, which lasted less than two hours, claimed the lives of a lot of people. Destroyed 18 American ships and nearly 300 airplanes. Almost half of the casualties at Pearl Harbor occurred on the naval battleship USS Arizona, which was hit four times by Japanese bombers.

What:
Japanese managed to destroy nearly 20 American naval vessels. The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress to declare war on Japan. Three days later, Japanese allies Germany and Italy also declared war on the United States. More than two years into the conflict, America had finally joined World War II.

When:
December 7, 1941

Where:
Territory of Hawaii

Why:
Japan bombed Pearl Harbor to protect their natural resources such as oil and rubber.

Injured/killed:
More than 2,000 Americans soldiers and sailors died in the attack, and another 1,000 were wounded.

WEAPONS USED:

  • Torpedoes
  • Bombs

The bombing could have been different by not using airplane and been on ground so ship/boats didn't get destroyed.

INTERESTING FACTS:

  • The Japanese fleet consisted of 353 planes that attacked in two waves.
  • Only 28 Japanese planes were shot down and 5 midget submarines sunk.
  • There is a National Monument that is floating that you can go see and walk across it known ass the USS Arizona.
