BACKROUND

  • An 1887 treaty let the U.S. use the harbor.
  • The U.S. Was not involved in the war yet.
  • The Japanese goal was to destroy U.S. ships and planes.
  • Japan has wanted to fight for a while.
  • President Roosevelt Threatened to cut U.S. trade with japan.

MORE BACKROUND

  • The president threatened to stop commercial trade with japan.
  • Japan was pretty much asking for war.
  • Luckily, there were no aircraft carriers at Pearl Harbor that day.

EVENT

  • The attack occured december 7th 1941
  • The first wave arrived at 7:50 a.m.
  • There were 183 Japanese planes in the first wave

  • America declared war on japan the same day.
  • Vice Adm. Chuichi Nagumo comanded the japanese fleet.
  • More than 2,300 military personel were killed.

  • The United States entered world war 2.
  • Many americans were very angry with japan.
  • Japan destroyed many airplanes and boats.

  • The U.S. Inflicted a devastating blow on japan.
  • Many americans were mad but did not want war.

We wanted to find out if the attack on Pearl Harbor affected the outcome of the war.
