The founder of Pennsylvania was a man named William Penn. Before settling in Pennsylvania, he was an English realtor, entrepreneur, philosopher, and early Quaker.

William Penn founded Pennsylvania with a grant that was owed to his deceased father. He founded Pennsylvania so the settlers had freedom of religion.

Quakers were the first to settle in Pennsylvania. They paid the Native Americans for the land before settling.

Pennsylvania was a part of the coastal plain and had low lying hills and river valleys. They had warmer winters and cooler summers.

The Pennsylvanians' economy was very complex. They sold wheat, corn, rye, hemp, and flax.

freedom. This attracted Quakers, Protestants, and Lutherans.
