People of the plains

People of the plains lived in earthen lodges which are houses made out of sticks, grass and soil. It was their permanent house.

The people that live in these lodges were sedentary tribes that thrived in the plains.

These tribes were: the Hidatsa, Mandan, Omana, Osage, Arikara, Pawnee, Otoe, etc.

They all had their different culture and ways of living but they all shared the same resources, which are:

Plants found in the plains:

• Berries
• Grasses
• Wild flowers

Animals in the plains:

• Bison
• Wild horses
• Sheep [from the spanish]
• Coyote
• Deer

Climate:

• Powerful winds
• Blistering summer heat
• Cold winters

Landform:

• Prairies
• Flatland
• Rolling hills covered in grasses

Food that plains people farmed:

• Corn
• Beans
• Squash
• Bison
• Berries
• Other local plants
