performance profiling

  • performance profiling is a method that is used by academies and also football teams to help achieve their goals.

why is it important to have a performance profile?

Over the past years clubs have used this to identify areas of improvement which have helped managers know what to plan in their future training sessions.
this is also important as players can see from another point of view (video evidence). this good as players wont have nothing to complain about as their is visual evidence of them.

Technical Performance Profile Wheel

The performance wheel is filled up with sporting activity, these are; Individual based, Specific position and specific action.

Individual Based
the opposing player has no effect on the athlete.

Specific position
Different position in sport make very different demands. for example, a goalkeeper not turning off for the whole game even if a player is down on the other end of the pitch

Specific Action
a specific action would be a goalkeeper taking a goal kick this can be broken down into small specific section, as this will allow an analysis to happen.

Technical & Tactical

Technical skills
technical skills are closed skills and are also individually based. these could be skills like; shooting, dribbling, passing, heading and etc. these are all skills that are done in a stable predictable environment, and the performer chooses to do these skill at his desired pace.

Tactical skills
A tactical skill is basically how you use your technical skills in a way to help you win a game. this also include a players position. for example, a defensive shape or striker shooting. but these tactic can change depending on the game situation.

Physiological requirments

Physical skills
different players have different type of physical skills. these can be from having strength, agility, power, speed/pace and flexibility. these can also vary from different body types & positions

A goalkeepers physical attribute would be being agile (flexible), the need agile movement, fast stimuli reaction for ball movement an sudden changes of game situation, strong lower & upper body to be able to get striking force, explosive movements and also fighting of attackers in the air and on the ground. keepers are generally between mesomorph and ectomorph.

PHYchological requirments

A psychological factor is a mental factor that helps or prevent an athlete from being in the right 'frame of mind' to perform well.

Many players want to improve their performance but just cant find the motivation or enough arousal to push them to their limits.

Last weekend Arsenal beat the red devils Manchester United 3-0 in the space of 20 minutes. they didn't loose because their was a bad side, they lost because they were 2-0 down in 10 minutes and this affected the whole team because they lost all motivation due to their loss Away from home.

The performance wheel will allow the coaches and also players know how their psychological performance effects them in their game.

BIOMECHANICAL requirments

Biomechanics is when all body parts combine and work together to create an act of force biomachanically. this would involve the skeleton, muscles, the heart and the cardiovascular system.

In this picture we know there is a paced runup and as he comes to the ball he adjusts his approach to the ball from front-on to a more diagonal angle. This approach gives a greater velocity of ball speed. you can see the nerves and eyes are working to see the ball, and sends a message to the body, then your gastronomes is working with your quadriceps and tarsals to allow you to run towards the ball.

at this point the kicker’s eyes are focused on the ball; the opposite arm from his kicking leg is raised up and the arm is pointed in the kicking direction to balance the rotating body. if we look at the kickers foot, as the plant foot strikes the ground contacting with the ball, the kicking leg is extending and the knee is flexing. The reason of this is to store elastic energy.

lastly, the follow through. during the follow through here is rotation, extension and an abduction of the right side of the hip and also a flexion of the knee. this helps minimize the risk of injuries and also helps create more power and speed to the ball.
