  • On August 2, 1991 Iraq attacked Kuwait
  • U.S. saw this and acted by sending in troops
  • The U.S. thought that Iraq would attack Saudi Arabia for the oil

  • However they were not successful
  • The U.S. demanded that Iraq withdrew from Kuwait
  • Iraq offered to leave only if Syrian troops pulled out of Lebanon, and that
