ARISTOTLE (384-322 BCE)
Aristotle thought that the Earth was the center of all things
He did not think the Earth went sround the sun because the relative position of the stars would change

3.
ARISTARCHUS (310-230 BCE)
Aristarchus is reported to have created one of the first heliocentric models
His idea was not widely accepted at the time
Although the ratios were way off he demonstrated the use of observation and geometry

4.
PTOLEMY (100-170)
Ptolemy proposed that the objects orbiting earth did so in loops
This helped predict the planets' location better than other previous models

5.
COPERNICUS
Copernicus developed a detailed heliocentric model backing off the ideas if Aristarchus
The measurements matched up closer than they ever had
Seen as the first modern model of our solar system

6.
KEPLER (1571-1630)
Kepler discovered the orbits are not perfect circles
Kepler created a three part law
1. The orbits are elipses with the sun at the focus
2. Planets orbit faster when closer to the sun
3. The time it takes for a planet to orbit is related to the planet's distance from the sun

7.
GALILEO (1564-1642)
Galileo's approach was similar to the modern scientific method
He proved that Earth was not the only object being orbeted
He recognized that venus went through phases similar to the Earth's moon

8.
NEWTON (1642-1727)
Created a reflecting telascope
Described the gravitational pull of objects

9.
HUBBLE (1889-1953)
Showed the velocity of the galaxy increasing
Proved galaxy was expanding
