When a sound accomplish a differentiating function it is called a phoneme. They are represented with this

In Spanish there are 24 phonemes:

* 5 of them are vocal
* 19 of them are consonants

* 12 of them are vocals
* 8 dipththongs

VOWEL PHONEMES

There are 2 types:

* place of articulation
*mode of articulation

CONSONANT PHONEMES

There are 3 types:

* the action of the palate veil (oral and nasal)
* the action of the vocal cords (sound and deaf)
* and the place of articulation ( bilabiales, labiodentales, dental, interdental, alveolar, palatal and velar).

PHONEMES CARACTERISTICS

  • Sound model is represented by letters
  • There is no correspondence between letters the number of phonemes and letters is very similar but not identical
