PRESENTATION OUTLINE

PHOSPHORUS

WHY IS IT HARMFUL TO LAKES AND HOW CAN WE HELP

WHAT IS PHOSPHORUS

  • Phosphorus is a chemical found in plant fertilizer
  • Phosphorus is also found in dog poop
Phosphorus can cause algae blooms which blocks oxygen from coming through which resolves in many fish dieing.

HOW IS PHOSPHORUS DANGEROUS TO OUR LAKES?

  • Algae blooms are a huge problem.
  • They deplete the amount of oxygen fish get.
  • This results in aquatic life dieing.
People use too much plant fertilizer, because of this algae blooms are created. Algae blooms are a huge amount of algae grown. This depleted the amount of oxygen aquatic life gets. This results in aquatic life and plants dieing.

ALSO PHOSPHORUS AFFECTS US TOO

  • We are drinking that polluted water.
  • Which could result in us getting very sick.
  • Filters might get some but not all of the phosphorus.
Too much phosphorus can result to getting the flu to kidney failure.

HOW CAN WE STOP THIS DISASTER

  • Using less plant fertilizer would make a huge change.
  • Instead you could use wood chips
  • They block sunlight and oxygen from getting to weeds
  • Also just simply picking up your dogs poop could make a huge difference

HOW I HELPED THE RIVER

  • I wrote a paper telling people
  • about phosphorus and how it is a issue
  • and how we can help. I printed it out and it is
  • in the main office at my moms work.
